Whew those snow days have really thrown us for a LOOP!! Welcome back from snowpocalypse and February break! Now that we are back in the swing of things, it's time to dig in and really get busy! In physical science, we have one unit left, Electricity & Magnetism, before the CRCT in April. This unit will take us through March, and then we will have about 2 weeks of review before spring break.
In Georgia Studies we are really going to have to book it to make it through in time! We are finishing up Unit 7 The Great Depression, and we will be beginning our Civil Rights Unit.

January 13 - January 17
This week we are in full swing with our WaVeS unit! We will learn about the parts of a wave and how waves interact and transfer energy. We will take the Ch. 15 test on Thursday. Then, we will follow up with the beginning of sound waves. Next week will be all about Sound Stations!
In Georgia History, we are continuing to look at the cultural and economic issues from the 1880s - 1920s. Racism played a huge part in many of the problems that plagued the south during this New South era. On Thursday and Friday, we will watch The People v. Leo Frank, a PBS documentary that shows exactly how widespread anti-Semitism was in the New South time period. Be sure to get your permission slip signed so that you can watch the documentary.

January 6 - January 10
Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break. I know I am glad to be back from maternity leave. It's time to jump into our Waves unit where we will look at the structure and interaction of sound and light waves. This unit will take us through February to Winter break.
In Georgia Studies, we are wrapping up our Civil War unit by creating a newspaper. Next week we will begin our New South unit.

September 30 - October 4
We are continuing our unit on the Periodic Table in science. This unit consists of Chapters 5 - 7, so we are about halfway through. The test over this unit will be Wednesday, 10/9. Speaking of October 9th, atom model projects are due that same day! We are coming up on the end of the first 9 weeks, so all work must be turned in!!
In Georgia Studies, we are finishing up the first half of our Statehood and American Revolution unit. The test will be Wednesday, October 2nd. We will continue straight into the 2nd half of the unit immediately following the test.

September 23 - September 27
This week we are beginning to study the Periodic Table in science. Students will be assigned an atom model project that will be due on Wednesday, 10/9. In Georgia Studies, we are beginning our unit on Statehood and the American Revolution. The test for the first part of this unit will be on Wednesday, 10/2.
September 16 - September 20
This week we will test over Matter & Energy and build solar ovens. On Thursday we will cook s'mores in the ovens and then write an official lab report on Friday. In social studies we will review and test over exploration and colonization on Friday, September 20th.

Welcome back from the long Labor Day weekend! I hope you all had a fun and safe 3 days. This week in science we will be completing Chapter 2 and starting stations to learn about energy and heat transfer (Ch. 3 & 4). The stations will last all of next week as well.
In social studies, we are beginning a unit on the exploration and colonization of Georgia. Students will learn about Hernando de Soto and will analyze the Charter of 1732 which led to the establishment of our colony.

August 26 - August 30
In science this week we are moving deeper into our unit on Matter. We will be finishing up Chapter 1 and moving into Chapter 2. In Georgia History we are finishing our unit on the prehistoric peoples of Georgia and will be testing on Thursday. We will be in the computer lab on Friday for both science and social studies. Also, remember we have a long weekend coming up! Be safe and have fun!

This week in science we will be using the scientific method to build copters. The copter launch will be on Tuesday, so be sure you have your copter ready to fly! The 2nd half of the week will consist of the first few days of our first official unit, S8P1 Nature of Matter. We will be discussing matter, mass, density, etc.
In Georgia History we are wrapping up our unit on the Geography and Pre-historic peoples of Georgia. This week students will be creating a Native American flip book, working on a study guide, and testing on Friday.

August 12 - August 16
This week in science we are reviewing laboratory safety, the scientific method, and the metric system. We will also be conducting our first lab! Please note that the test over this material will be on FRIDAY, AUGUST 16th!! In Georgia studies we are continuing our unit on geography and will begin discussing Native Americans on Thursday. All social studies students must have their 3x5 index cards by TUESDAY in order to begin creating an anchor flip book.
In other news, all paperwork is due to CARES teachers in order to receive a locker. Also, picture day is FRIDAY, AUGUST 16th!!

Welcome to 8th Grade Physical Science and Social Studies! I am looking forward to a wonderful year! This week we will be discussing the syllabus, as well as classroom expectations and behavior. Signed syllabi & lab contracts are due Friday, August 9th! Next week we will jump into the scientific method, lab safety, and the metric system in Physical Science. In Georgia Studies we will begin looking at the geography & prehistoric cultures of Georgia!
